Dear fans of Battlefield2.
We’re thrilled to share that Phase 1 of the BF2Hub community rollout is now live in our new data center! ? The maintenance mode is still active but in-game account registration has been re-opened, and additional services will follow progressively.
As you might probably know, we've faced a significant challenge in the last few months. After serving the BF2 community **for the past 10 years** since the official GameSpy shutdown, a [critical, infrastructure-breaking event forced us to move to a new data center. Without much time to prepare we had to rush restoring core services: migrate everything, databases, snapshots, backups & similar items to the new DC; design & setup a completely new BF2 infrastructure, database clusters, application clusters, storage clusters and and finally rewrite & modernize tons of code to match the new environment.
Such an epochal amount of operations (in layman's terms: re-building a new BF2Hub _from the ground up_ ?) required a lot of human resources: at the time we had estimated 20 days to complete 80% of those tasks (bringing most systems online but with limited functionality, essentially what we call "maintenance mode"); yet with hard volunteer work (in the free time after our real-life jobs) we pulled through and by 12 juni 2024 (9 days later) we managed to achieve that minimum 80% to serve back our existing player-base & ~150 game servers pool.
The last 20% of the restoring operations proved to be the longest to tackle. First of all because **restoring an infrastructure built** hastily in long gone **2014**, is **not as simple** as one might think: decisions had to be made at the time, in order to meet the GameSpy shutdown date, that today we are paying during the restoring process; therefore we've been working hard to re-think some of these aspects, modernizing our infrastructure and re-writing some of the decade-old code we have, given the fact the new DC also runs on newer technology & frameworks. ?
Furthermore, **we are constantly faced with and still facing heavy network attacks**, in the attempt to take our systems completely offline. This kind of relentless attack is slowing down our efforts to fully restore BF2Hub to its former glory but we are working hard to mitigate it as best as we possibly can.
Finally we want to thank our moderators & supporters for their admirable work managing this Discord Server as well as their direct involvement in trying to solve the shortcomings that this whole situation has (unwillingly) bestowed upon us. And of course a big shout out to our community, we saw many of your nice reactions, here in our Discord and on Social Media - let's keep being the best versions of ourselves, stay strong, and enjoy the next decade of BF2, together. ?
Yours truly, **BF2Hub Staff**
